Dominique Benton
Cape Town, South Africa
Dominique Sarah Benton is a Cape Town-based artist and a high school Visual Arts teacher.
She believes the interaction within the learning environment strongly influences her response towards creativity and art making and its interplay on and around the external world.
Dominique juxtaposes the 'Kitsch' and 'Kawaii' with original traditional and vintage aesthetics. Handpainted in gouache, each piece is unique. Benton’s Neo-pop Surrealist style aims to reflect mainstream society by observing the relationship between the viewer/consumer and the 'consumed'. Resulting in decorative cute and alluring characters with subversive nuanced undertones her art is both detailed and confronting.’
