Taking inspiration from Francis Ford Coppola's monumental war film, Apocalypse Now, as well as the song Charlie Don't Surf by The Clash, JRF's Taliban Don't Surf presents a topical narrative infused with politically-charged rhetoric. It parodies western stereotypes while questioning the ambiguous motives of the US military occupation along border of Pakistan/Afghanistan.

Taliban Don't Surf is a hand-crafted, artist-pulled, two-color screen print on black 100# French paper stock. The archival, 18" x 24" print is an edition of only fifty units, each individually embossed with artist's chop on lower left and numbered on lower right.

About the Artist

Location: Los Angeles, CA

JRF is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer with an active history in a variety of creative pursuits. Born from a passion for do-it-yourself culture, he began designing and producing his own stickers, t-shirts, stencils and 'zines as early as 1985. His creative inspirations are always diverse and take cues from a variety of sources, including punk music, vernacular typography and postmodern art.

JRF's design for 1xRUN is a blend of his formal interests in collage, typography and screenprinting combined with his conceptual interests in consumer culture, mass media and current events. His work often deconstructs such topics by employing a balanced syntax of both analog and digital techniques.

JRF lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
